Engaging mover
In our situation, we got to handover our keys before collection of our new home keys. The timeline just happen to don’t match for us ideally.
So, we got to shift out the house by 21 May and will only be able get out keys for the new home on 19 June. We will be doing renovation that could likely takes up 2 mths. We will be homeless for 3 months.
Of course, we did plan for it if we failed to match the perfect time line. Most people who fall into such situation will have the following consideration:
1 shift to parents / in law place, if furniture are old they will dispose. If furniture are still good conditions, either rent storage place in a warehouse or shift to relatives or related family members’ house to temporary store should there is sufficient place for storing.
2. Rent a empty home to stay during the transition, bring over all furniture
As for us, we shift back to my mum place, and thankfully, early of the year my brother had collected his new 2 room condo n he had shifted out. So there is a spare empty room at my parents place as well as brother place.
I didn’t want to pay rent to store my furniture. So decided to shift most furniture such as sofa, dinning tables and chairs, washing machine, movable storage benches as well as almost 20 carton boxes of stuff from my house.
While I have the queen size bed frame n bed shifted to mum place together with the Osim udiva. Old hdb really huge. It was so spacious still.
After we have decided where to stay and where we should move our furnitures to, it is time to look out for movers. At the same time, decide on the moving date.
I highly recommend to look out in at least 3 weeks in advance to confirm mover availability. I gotten some contacts and try searching myself online and reading feedback online. I do get a shock at times the quotation I get when I enquiry.
Just to name a few, the helping hand, quoted me for $380, there was additional location, addition of $50 surcharge. It was a storage bed, so is harder to disassemble n assemble another $60 to be added.
Another one is the VS mover, quoted $238 however, there was also surcharge, additional of $40 to dismantle n reassemble , additional $40 for 2 location, pushing more than 2 blocks in condo need extra $70. They claim pushing distance surcharge range from $50-$120. And thats sums up to $388.
There is also Jackie mover, charge base on hourly rate. 3 man and a 14ft box lorry at $150 per hour. Shrink wrap is $10 per roll. They included wrapping, disemable and assemble.
But one thing is hard for us to gauge the hours they will take. Cs went to ask for quote, he was quoted with 2 man at $130 per hour. We felt a little uneasy actually.
Upon hearing all these surcharges here and there, we came across from cs’s fren recommended us to A star.
They quoted us $400 nett, for everything. when we told them about additional location, additional distance and about the storage bed etc, they just say included. No worries. They even arrange someone up to our unit to pass us 20 carton boxes and at the same time to review what we are shifting.
A* Star Mover
On the day of the move, they were early by 15 mins than the stated time, 3 men came and they were extremely efficient. We just let them know what we are shifting and they simply get started with stacking things up on the plank with wheels and start wrapping the boxes. One of them just went in kitchen to settle the washing machine and fridge. In just less than 3 mins fridge was properly wrapped and push out the house.
In less than an hour they are almost ready to go. The very last thing was dismantling the storage bed and shifting them down via lift.
They were fast and at the same time they taking very good care of our things. We can tell by their small actions.
Just as we arrive at brother’s condo, rain starts to pour down! They told us they have to wait for the rain. Lorry cant enter carpark, so we requested the security and management office to allow them to park somewhere nearing the entrance of the basement carpark so they can push down.
After 30 mins of wait,(luckily i didnt engage the per hr rate) they decided to resume the move, just abt 5 mins later rain stopped. Its seems like they can even forecast. They helped us to organize in a way to ensure it can fix our stuff yet there are still space available.
We move on back to my parents place once they are done. And the whole session ended at 11.30. It took 3 hours for all these to be settled including the 30 mins of waiting time.
If you are looking our for mover, i think A star will be a better choice for less hassle, and worry free. You dont need to worry for any surcharge involve along the way. Just nett.
